I grew up in Holland, Michigan, and traveled the world before making my home in Honolulu, Hawaii. In early adulthood I sailed the seven seas traveling aboard ship to exotic locales such as Cuba, Honduras, Jamaica, Africa, Turkey, Israel, Gibraltar, The Canary Islands and many other far-flung ports o' call. While receiving my education state-side I worked as a boatwright restoring classic, Chris-Craft wooden runabouts. After university studies I enjoyed a career illustrating technical manuals for some of the worlds largest office furniture manufacturers, including Herman Miller, where I had the opportunity to study and draw the classic mid-century modern furniture of Ray and Charles Eames, Eero Saarinen and George Nelson.
Visits to the nearby Art Institute of Chicago brought me inspiration from some of the world's greatest painters and photographers. A reunion with childhood friend and artist Gregory Ellis precipitated a move to the Hawaiian Islands where the lush landscape and warm climate inspired a change of pace. My eventual collaboration with a local graphic design firm led to the launching of AI Design Studio centering on web design, graphic design and a broad portfolio of Hawaii based clientele. Around the same time a partnership with one of Hawaii's renowned photo journalists, Brett Uprichard, led to the launching of Big Bamboo Stock Photography, a Hawaii stock photo agency focusing on imagery of the Hawaiian Islands and the Pacific. This partnership has led to the production of numerous children's and pictorial books as well as providing images for album covers, advertising, editorial and web sites.
Along the way I've worked as a photo assistant to some of the worlds most high-profiles photographers in the fields of fashion, sport, surf and travel. This wealth of experience has provided the opportunity to work with a vast array of artists and designers from around the world.
While exploring the Hawaiiand Islands I've discovered some of the worlds most beautiful scenery, inspiring a photographic portfolio of evocative landscapes. Another keen interest is documenting the largest urban population center in the Pacific Ocean. Extensive travels the world over continue to provide inspiration to a wandering eye.
